Year II

If you are coming from Year I of Salt and Light Homeschool, check your inventory from last year. There is no need to get a new spiral notebook, Joy & Wisdom journal, or art notebook if there are empty pages. My children work in the same books for 2-3 years straight. Keeps costs and waste down!

McGuffey Readers
This will be used for teaching reading in Grades 1st - 3rd or from 1st grade through whenever they reach a point where they can read easily and do not require the use of these guides. When they feel comfortable reading a beginner chapter book, they don't need to continue the McGuffey Readers for reading instruction, they can just start reading from books they find interesting. Just follow your instincts, mama! You can find these for FREE online here.

These are also for dyslexic children, start with the Primer regardless of age/grade if they struggle greatly. You can look these books up for free online to see which book would be best. You begin your student at the spot where they need any assistance from you on a word, letter sound or pronunciation.

PreK & Kinder
The poetry book, A Nature Poem for Every Day of the Year will be used in Year III for older children as well. For those of you with young children only, I wanted to make sure that you invested in a poetry book that you would keep and use for many years. This collection is my most favorite and I am always inspired when I read it to myself or to my children. All ages enjoy it! Don't worry if they're grasping it, or getting something out of it. The point of reading poetry to young children is for them to hear different speech patterns and language usage.

  1. Hi Jane, Just wanted to know you have a follower here very interested in using your curriculum. I'm starting year 2 with my 7th grader this year so I will bookmark your blog to keep my self updated. I met you through IG but I'm taking a little break for a bit. Social media is really becoming a drag in my life. I'm also staying current on your YouTube channel so don't give up! We are out there and appreciate you and your content! :D God Bless!!! Praying for you all! I believe you are near the current hurricane situation. Lot's of prayers!!! Tanya aka hearts_on_fire4_home..

    1. Much needed encouragement! I'm still editing year 2 and am my own worst critic, I think. Praying to release it in about a day or three. Prayers much much appreciated! Social Media is a total drag. I would delete all of it if I didn't use it for work. Ha!

  2. Hugs!!! We need to go back and stick to blogging. Understand you reach more people via social media but I’m advocating we all drop SM and reach people on a much more personal and deeper level. We’re becoming an “alien” nation and it personally freaks me out. No hurry! I just printed off your lists and I’m sticking around here to keep you encouraged and in my prayers!!! 🤗

  3. Jane, I have searched for your story and now I've stumbled upon it. I learned in L&L curriculum back in 2018 when I first began homeschooling. I loved it, but couldn't use it at that time. Then I learned you had converted. How shocking! Fast forward to spring of 2020 - my husband told me he'd be studying church history...you know where that leads! One day I looked at him and said, "It seems like you're becoming Catholic." Weird. You came to mind immediately and I set out to find your story. I couldn't. We officially joined the church in May of this year. In July my 11 year old son passed away and I experienced true heartbreak for the first time. Then I learned that your sweet babe went to be with Jesus. I'm so sorry you have to live this pain and walk this road. I pray for you and your family almost daily. I just wanted to tell you that you've impacted my life. God bless you.
