I am a planner by nature. I love making lists, I love journals and planners... can I call it a hobby? Let's go with a solid yes. So, it's only natural I would plan out my children's homeschool course of study... year by year...
However, I am not completely rigid. I freely change the lists and the plans as life changes, no big deal. I love rewriting lists anyway, I'm weird like that. Of course I'm using the curriculum I wrote : Salt + Light. The largest change is that Lorelai was a grade and a half ahead and is now having a 9th grade do-over.
Last year, we lost our home in Hurricane Florence just a few weeks after our fourth baby was born. The series of life stresses after that made us mostly unschoolers. That's totally fine with me, as we are part of an unschooling umbrella school anyway -- both before, in Tennessee, and now in Florida. We didn't have umbrella schools in NC. This blog post will have Lorelai's plan and then I will post Breezy's and Everett's plans in the next couple of blog posts.
Lorelai
So last year, pre-hurricane, our plans were for Lorelai were to dual enroll at Liberty University next summer and graduate high school at 16. She was going to continue her studies there until she got her Bachelors at 18. With all the getting behind on that plan after the storm, and us converting to Catholic [Liberty is a Protestant Christian college that I attended and loved], we had to rethink our plan.
She gave quite a bit of thought and tons of research about what she wanted to study, if she needed a degree for it and and where she wanted to live. She has selected some other colleges to apply to and we just look at their requirements and set her plan. We put pen to paper so that she can see what's ahead and she loves it!
The total minimum credits needed anywhere in the United States for high school graduation is 21. With the plan below, Lorelai will have 34.5 credits total. More than enough! All subjects listed, except those that say [CK-12] or the Math, are all the Salt + Light Homeschool Curriculum. You can check out the full scope and sequence here.
